Welcome Back to ELSS …
I am excited to be returning to ELSS myself! I look forward to renewing old acquaintances and making new friends and getting to know each of you!
This summer has been a busy time at the school for those who have been preparing for your return and the vibrant energy that you bring. Mr. Gillis and his team, along with Blayr Legris have cleaned, painted and brightened up the school to a wonderful, welcoming state. Say thank you when you see them!
ELSS has now had its entire roof replaced so we can stay dry! You will notice that Room 209 has been renovated and will be the new home of the ISP Program. Mr. Young and the Student Success Program will now be found in Room 225.
We hope you will join us for Early Registration on the 30th of August. Mrs. McDonald, our Head of Guidance, and Mr. Young, our Student Success Teacher, worked very hard to ensure you get a viable timetable. This informative package was organized for you by Ms. Rombouts and was delivered to each of your homes by Mr. Riddle. The ELSS “Team” puts forth a lot of effort to ensure that your educational needs are met.
Thirty four students
participated in the Jump Start Program during the summer. Mr. Naus and Ms. McLean
were very pleased with these students and impressed with their drive to succeed
by spending three weeks getting ready for Grade 9. Mr. Halligan, Mr. Juuti,
and Mr. Ryan worked with another thirty students who took part in Summer School.
Congratulations to all the successful students.
The first day of school is a shortened day, for most students. The Grade 9’s and their senior mentors will have lunch at the school and enjoy an afternoon Orientation Program. Our Student Council President, Sam Wilson, and our Vice-President, Joanna Dickson, organized this event for you.
The regular school day runs from 8:35 a.m. to 3:03 p.m. For your own educational success and as a courtesy for others, please be sure to be there on time. You lose out on your education and you disturb the learning of others by entering class late.
We require new members for our School Advisory Council as some of our parents have “graduated” with their children. We really like to have all grades and programs represented. The form is available on the last page of Contact Newsletter. Please consider joining us.
We welcome Mr. Calway
(Tech Dept.) and Ms. Solomon (Main Office) to our staff this year. I am sure
you will enjoy the energy they will bring to the school.
If you have questions before school begins, please call Ms. Rombouts, our Office Supervisor, at the school. She will be happy to answer your questions or refer you to someone who can.
Enjoy your last
few days of summer. I look forward to meeting you on August 30th and kicking
off the new school year on September 4th.
Mr. M. Robinson
