Starting this September, ELSS will be introducing a House System involving Intramural,
lunch time, and other in-school activities. The students and staff have been
split into one of four House Colours: Green, Gold, Red and Blue.
During the lunch hour, students and staff who are interested can get involved in many activities such as: Intramural Sports, “ Games Club” tournaments, Reach for the Top Competitions, the Read Around the World Contest and much more. Now students will now earn points for their Colour House when they get involved at ELSS during lunch hour!
Weekly totals will reveal the leading House and hopefully increase participation, school spirit, and increase interaction between our students. This fall, there will be a “NAME THE MASCOT” competition in the school. The students and staff will be able to submit recommendations and each house will vote on who they want to be their Colour House Mascot. At the end of the school year, awards will be given out; such as the Top Participant of each House, along with the overall Point Champion Colour.
Our Colour House Captains, Kari Kluke, Addison Duhaime, Brian Killen, and Sarah deBortoli will combine their leadership and talents with the students in the new Gr. 12 Recreation and Fitness Leadership course, to work towards a goal of over 25 activities in the first semester alone!
For the time being, the House system will not include Varsity Sports, Academics, and other Community Activities. Our focus will be on lunch- time Intramural participation. All students and staff members of ELSS are welcome and encouraged to participate in as many Intramural Activities as they wish. Some of the planned events this Fall include: Lacrosse, Ultimate Frizbee, Yu-gi-oh, Paddle Ball, Euchre and many more.Get Involved and have fun!
Yours in Intramurals,
Mr. Tom O’Grady
